For decades, our high-profile criminal defense cases have been covered by international media outlets. Often, we are quoted by the media regarding high-profile military justice issues. Our firm also uses the media to our client’s advantage so we can do damage control if necessary. For the majority of our clients, we skillfully keep their names out of the media in order to avoid embarrassment and public humiliation. for example, in a Naval officer rape trial, and the Secret Service – Colombia prostitution scandal, we convinced the news to not include our clients’ names in their reports. However, when the media does take interest in your case, you need a lawyer with experience and connections who can use the media to your advantage.
WARNING:
Many lawyers claim to have been “seen in the news.” Be careful. Some lawyers lie about or exaggerate their media appearances.
Do some research and verify:
Was the lawyer actually in the news? Does their website link to an article or CNN story? Some lawyers paste a CNN logo on their site even though they have never been mentioned by CNN. If the lawyer says they have been on CNN, there should be a link to the article.
were they the lead lawyer on the case? What was their involvement?
Whether they won the case or won a favorable outcome.
Whether they were in the media one time or many times.
How the lawyer managed his client’s reputation with the media?
