Marine Corps Detachment Goodfellow Air Force Base, Texas

MC Detachment Goodfellow AFB Military Lawyer | Court Martial Attorney

Although it is a United States Air Force base, it is considered to be a non-flying base. It can be found in San Angelo, Texas. Its history traces before the Pearl Harbor Attacks and its name commemorates the bravery and sacrifices of an earlier battle that involves 1st Lieutenant John J. Goodfellow Jr. In 1918, he boarded his observation plane at Gonderville Airfield in France to accomplish visual reconnaissance behind enemy lines. Unfortunately, bad weather limited the observation only at low altitude resulting to enemy pursuit and ultimately, heroism.

Marine Corps Detachment, Goodfellow Air Force Base

Today, Goodfellow Air Force Base specializes in intelligence and cryptology training for the Air Force, Army, Navy, Coast Guard and Marine Corps. As a part of the 312th Training Squadron, military fighters are also trained here. The base housed the 17th Training Wing (17TRW) on the 1st of July 1993. This increased the bases’ mission.
